چکیده

Funded by the NSF CubeSat and NASA ELaNa programs, the Dynamic Ionosphere CubeSat Experiment (DICE) mission consists of two 1.5U CubeSats which were launched into an eccentric low Earth orbit on October 28, 2011. Each identical spacecraft carries two Langmuir probes to measure ionospheric in-situ plasma densities, electric field C.S. Development and Initial Operations of the Rax-2 Cubesat

RAX-2 is a 3U CubeSat that is studying the formation of plasma irregularities in the ionosphere. The primary payload is a UHF radar receiver which is used in conjunction with ground-based incoherent scatter radar stations to characterize the irregularities. RAX is the first CubeSat funded by the United States National Science Foundation’s Small Satellite Program for Space Weather Research. The ...

Payload characterization for CubeSat demonstration of MEMS deformable mirrors

Coronagraphic space telescopes require wavefront control systems for high-contrast imaging applications such as exoplanet direct imaging. High-actuator-count MEMS deformable mirrors (DM) are a key element of these wavefront control systems yet have not been flown in space long enough to characterize their on-orbit performance. The MEMS Deformable Mirror CubeSat Testbed is a conceptual nanosatel...

Application for RSO Automated Proximity Analysis and IMAging (ARAPAIMA): Development of a Nanosat-based Space Situational Awareness Mission

ARAPAIMA is a proximity operations mission sponsored by the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), to perform the in-orbit demonstration of autonomous proximity operations for visible, infrared, and point cloud generation of resident space objects (RSOs) from a nanosat platform. The nanosat is of the 6U CubeSat class, with overall dimens...

AIAA/AAS Astrodynamics Specialist Conference Position and Time System for the RAX Small Satellite Mission

This paper presents the Position and Time System (PTS) for the Radio Aurora eXplorer (RAX) small spacecraft. The PTS is a critical mission component that provides accurate temporal and spatial information required for the science objectives. The system faces many challenges due to the restrictions of our CubeSat form-factor and the power, size, and cost limitations. We describe the design appro...

Cubesat Investigating Atmospheric Density Response to Extreme Driving (CADRE)

The “Cubesat-investigating Atmospheric Density Response to Extreme driving” (CADRE) project is the next space weather mission sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The Earth’s ionosphere and thermosphere are driven in a variety of regions on multiple scales, and changes in the upper atmosphere can adversely affect our society’s increasingly critical space-based infrastructure. For...
